Abstract
The capacity of educational technology to enhance learning has been called into question by both scholars and the public at large. Doubts about the benefits of educational technology stem from decades of research agendas focused on establishing certainty in learning contexts where probabilistic knowledge is the best that can be expected.
However, progress in improving professional learning through technology can be accomplished using educational design research (EDR) as an alternative inquiry approach. EDR involves intensive, long-term collaboration among researchers and practitioners to develop viable solutions to practical problems while also seeking to identify reusable design principles.
This seminar will include a call for action for the educational technology research community to adopt EDR more widely so that the public good realized from our research rises to a socially responsible level. Specific strategies for engaging academics, doctoral students, and practitioners in EDR agendas focused on professional learning will be described.
The event is free of charge. Places are limited and will be booked on first-come basis.
