In the course of literature reviews, project seminars and online discussions, the SPNECRE project and its continuation activities gathered evidence of practices with the potential to contribute to the research capacity building – both of individuals and more widely. Some of these were sources of information; others were specific ideas couched in terms of problem solving or overcoming barriers; others were about developing a more enduring research culture in which individual and collective research capacity could develop.
In most of these, we were able to identify ‘about ten’ examples, sources, or practices. This collation itself was seen as useful by our project participants – to whom we are grateful for their suggestions and insights into their lives as researchers. Not all of these are specific to TEL research – but many are, and highlight the particular challenges of working in new and cross-disciplinary spaces.
We have arranged these into the following groups. For the early career researcher, these are ideas which may be worth trying, or they may be useful in legitimising activities you already take part in: yes, other people do this too. For those supporting early career researchers, supervising students or otherwise ‘building capacity’, these are things which may be worth supporting, suggesting or implementing. Some of these seem very obvious. But that doesn’t mean they happen …
